General questions
Yes, and it is not optional. New York only allows licensed contractors to perform asbestos removal, and the state Department of Labor issues those licenses. The workers on site have to be certified through accredited training as well. We hold current licensing and will show you the number before you commit. If a contractor will not show you theirs, keep looking.
No. The inspection is free. For hazards like asbestos and lead, a real estimate depends on knowing exactly what is in the wall or ceiling, so we look and, where needed, test before we quote. You get honest information whether or not you hire us.
Our own crew, start to finish. We do not hand the testing to one company, the removal to another, and the cleanup to a third. That hand-off model is how details get lost and how nobody ends up responsible. With us it is one team from the first walkthrough to the final clearance.

Then it is not finished, and we keep working until it does. We do not close out a job on a hazard that is still there. Passing the clearance check is the point of the whole job, so we treat it that way.
Usually the cheaper quote skipped something, and on this kind of work the thing that gets skipped is containment. Sealing off the area and controlling the air is what keeps the hazard from spreading through the rest of the building. We build that into the price up front. Paying less to have dust spread through your house is not a saving.

In homes built before the mid-1980s, the usual spots are floor tiles and the adhesive under them, pipe and boiler insulation, popcorn ceilings, and old siding. Given how much of the Island's housing predates that period, these are common finds. You cannot confirm it by eye, so professional asbestos removal always starts with testing.
Mostly the material and the square footage. A single popcorn ceiling is a small job. Insulation running through a whole basement is a big one.
