Serving Centereach

Centereach filled in during the big midcentury push, when Suffolk's population climbed and developers put up subdivisions quickly along and around Middle Country Road. The result is a lot of housing built in a relatively narrow window, using the building products that were standard then. Asbestos was in plenty of those products, and lead was still in the paint at the start of the period.

The repetition works in the homeowner's favor. We have opened up enough Centereach ranches and capes to know the usual suspects before we arrive: nine by nine or twelve by twelve floor tile with black mastic beneath it, textured or popcorn ceilings, insulation around heating pipes, and original siding on homes that have never been re-clad. That shortens the inspection and makes the estimate more reliable, because we are not guessing at the scope.

Two things complicate it. First, decades of piecemeal updating. A Centereach house has often had the kitchen done once, the bathroom twice, and flooring added on top of flooring, which means the original asbestos tile may still be down there under two newer layers. It is usually harmless until someone decides to take it all up.

Second, basements. A lot of these homes have full basements that were finished at some point in the seventies or eighties without much thought for moisture. Those are our most common mold jobs here, and the cause is almost always a specific thing: a foundation crack, a failed seal, a downspout dumping against the wall.
